Traces of Andaz

Traces of Andaz reinterprets the warmth and refinement that comes with hotel living within the context of an everyday home. Inspired by the layered materiality and understated luxury of Andaz Singapore, the space balances softness with structure where muted textures, ambient lighting and earthy finishes come together in a calm, immersive atmosphere.

Pale oak cabinetry, and muted upholstery form a cohesive language that moves seamlessly from living to dining to display. The design leans into tonal harmony, creating a sense of enclosure without heaviness.

Curves are introduced to soften transitions between spaces, while tactile surfaces and tonal continuity create a sense of visual ease throughout the interior. Recessed shelving introduce moments of depth and shadow while breaking down larger surfaces into more intricate compositions, allowing the space to feel layered.

Board games play a central role in the homeowners’ way of gathering, shaping the dining area into a space designed equally for hosting and play. Responding to this, the dining table was customised into a generous 1.5-metre-square format to comfortably accommodate sprawling game layouts and larger groups. The choice of a sintered stone balances aesthetics with practicality, offering resilience against the wear and spontaneity of regular hosting.

Away from the communal energy of the dining space, the home gradually transitions into a more personal and introspective atmosphere. A tucked-away corner dedicated to the couple’s toy collection introduces a sense of nostalgia and individuality within the otherwise restrained interior. More than a display space, it becomes a quieter extension of the home; one that invites lingering conversations, slower moments, and a different rhythm of gathering altogether.

The spatial planning similarly prioritises openness without sacrificing definition. Leading into the kitchen, french doors with reeded glass were skilfully integrated to separate different functions within the home while preserving sight lines and the flow of natural light. In the kitchen, the palette remains consistent, with the introduction of solid-coloured overhead cabinetry to break up the monotony of oak used throughout the interior.

Private areas are treated with the same clarity as the communal zones. Warm wood cabinetry is paired with pale stone and frameless glass to create a sense of calm precision, where every element feels purposeful and enduring. Lines are kept clean, junctions discreet, and visual noise carefully edited away.

The design prioritises longevity, a quiet dialogue between material, proportion, and everyday function. The result is a home that feels measured and timeless, where craftsmanship speaks softly, and space is allowed to do the rest.
